I have seen the movie way too many times, loved the first part and the middle, BUT, the movie lost my interest each time toward the end. Agreed, way too long, but the music keeps you there. The ending...NOT believable. As far as Sci-fi movies go, you can expect anything, but the ending does not go with the movie...it is like pinning a donkey tail on a dog...it just does look right.
That is the opion of the older Dave, "right Hal?" I was doubtlessly traumatized(if by nothing else, the eerie soundtrack) when I was a child by this film and confused as a "teener" by the religious rhuminations and vague plot. Although I definitely liked the film after seeing it as a teen, I admittedly didn't understand it.
Then I came along as a 24 year old, after hearing all the rhetoric from the critics that you described all of these years and I thought to myself: "I must have been too immature and simple-minded to understand it as a teenager. Obviously a teenaged mind cannot grasp the deep granduere of this film". So I watched it again. And you are correct, like Tron, this movie, to this day is a jumbled, artsy surreal mess that is every bit as incomprehensible as the first time I viewed it. I love it (and Tron), but that doesn't let the movie off the hook.
Be sure and check out the great "Oliver Morgue" furniture in the hallway of the ship. There's a bright red double Djin series setee there by the elevator, Righteous!
I like your blog so far, love your cover photo of you musing in the tux-jacket. Keep up the movie reviews. Knowing you personally, I really enjoy reading your view.

-Heinrich (second-tier) FoxHeinrich_Foxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12571188496022884903noreply@blogger.com
